E-Mail List Information

A new Winnebago ARES®/RACES mailing list system is in development to process routine group emails, alert messages, and one-line alert SMS messages. The new system is described herein.

New System Overview/Admin

There are currently three mailing lists, which are described in the table below. In order to stay in the loop, Winnebago ARES®/RACES members will want to join all at least the ares-list and ares-alert-list. If you were a member of Winnebago ARES®/RACES before April 2007, you have probably already been added to these lists.

List Name	Description
ares-list	Routine Messages List: This list handles normal messages of general interest to Winnebago County ARES®/RACES members. Examples are meeting announcements, event information, and other information needed by ARES®/RACES members.
ares-alert-list	Standard Alert List: This list is for alerts which require the immediate attention of the Winnebago ARES®/RACES membership. Only leadership officials can send messages to this list. A typical alert notifies members of a severe weather threat, and is usually sent when the SPC puts us at Slight Risk or higher in their Convective Outlook.
ares-alert-sms-list	Alert SMS List: When alerts are issued they are accompanied by a short one-line message describing the situation. That short messages is sent to ares-alert-sms-list. This list is specially designed for adding your cell phone SMS email address. These addresses are usually of the form `9202331111@cellprovider.com`.

To add or remove your email address from any of the above lists, you have two options. Most users will choose the "Simplified Frontend." Advanced users will choose the "Mailman Interface."

Because this system is important Winnebago ARES®/RACES infrastructure, it may have a companion backup system, and as such, your add/remove changes may take up to a day or two to fully propagate.
