Membership Policy

In order to serve effectively in disaster and other emergency incidents, and to develop as an organization alongside our served agencies, Winnebago ARES®/RACES members must be well-trained, and the members and organization must conduct themselves professionally. To fulfill these requirements, Winnebago ARES®/RACES has a membership policy. This policy is discussed in detail herein. Questions should be directed to the emergency coordinator or another membership officer.

To remain a member in good standing of Winnebago ARES®/RACES, members must meet all of the following requirements:
  1. Check in to one (1) sunday net per month. See Sunday Net.
  2. Attend NWS spotter training at least every two (2) years. See NWS WFO Green Bay.
  3. Attend one (1) local ARES®/RACES meeeting per year. See Meetings.
  4. Send one (1) piece of formal traffic per year to the emergency coordinator telling him that you wish to remain a member.
  5. Perform net control duties as assigned. See Sunday Net.
  6. Comply with NIMS requirements by completing FEMA courses IS-100 (ICS) and IS-700 (NIMS). See FEMA EMI and Wisconsin ARES®/RACES NIMS Policy.
  7. Maintain a valid FCC-issued Amateur Radio License of any class. Licensing assistance is available. Lack of a license should not deter any interested person from joining ARES/RACES.

If a member is not able to fulfill any of these requirements it is his/her responsibility to inform the emergency coordinator of the reason and the case will be reviewed for a possible exception. Some requirements preclude local exception.

Winnebago ARES®/RACES members may be subjected to a criminal background check at any time during their membership. Applications for new membership may also be checked.

Failure to satisfy any of the above requirements without notification will result in being dropped from the roster.

If you are interested in joining Winnebago ARES®/RACES, please download and complete a membership application and send it to the emergency coordinator. Visit the contact information page to get in touch.
