NOAAPort Dissemination Network

Overview
Winnebago ARES®/RACES has developed software for receiving the NOAAPort satellite broadcast, relaying data via Internet TCP/IP, relaying via amateur AX.25 (packet), and displaying NEXRAD Level III, GINI, some polygon data, and all text products for end users connected via TCP/IP or AX.25. With appropriate processing, NEXRAD Level III radial data for a 90 degree portion of a scan may be transmitted over 1200 baud AFSK in approximately thirty seconds. The TCP/IP dissemination software allows for redundant links with high data rates if needed. All components have built-in compression to save transmission time.

Documentation
A detailed system overview is publicly available. Additionally, the RDTP/AX.25 protocol specification is publicly available. Both of these documents are available through the links below:

Software Availability
The software for this system is split into many separate packages. Some software is available gratis and free under GNU GPL version 2 (not version 3), including especially the RDTP/AX.25 implementation library. This software is available at the public radar project software web site. The NOAAPort receive program as well as certain features in LibNNids II are not available publicly. These components are restricted to Wisconsin ARES®/RACES units. Because the developer does not want to incur liabilities from forming contracts these components are not available for sale. License arrangements may be available for non-profit organizations on a per-case basis.
